Options of Care

Different mothers-to-be prefer different ways to set up their care during pregnancy. Know Your Midwife has many options to help you throughout your pregnancy, birthing and 6 weeks post-natal.

  1. Midwifery Continuity of Care Programme
You will have a primary midwife but will also get to meet and know her backup midwife.
Your primary midwife coordinates your care, attends your birth and provides continuity of care in your home during the postnatal period for 6 weeks.

  2. Shared Care General Practitioner
Your primary midwife and GP will collaborate to provide your antenatal care.
Your midwife will attend your birth and your postnatal care.

  3. Private Obstetrician Shared Care
Should you choose to birth in a Private hospital yet still wish to have your own midwife for a proportion of antenatal care, birthing and postnatal care, this may be negotiated.

  4. Obstetric Consultant Care
For high risk pregnancies you may be required see the obstetrician and/or GP more often than the normal key appointments.   â€¨Your midwife will endeavour to attend these appointments with you to maintain the continuity of care between obstetrician and midwife to coordinate care to attain the best outcome for you and your baby.

The best way to decide which support model works best for you is to talk to us, so give us a call so we can chat about your situation and preferences.
